FROM DOWNTON ABBEY TO THE MITFORD MURDERS
with JESSICA FELLOWES
New York Times and Sunday Times bestselling author of the Downton Abbey books and the Mitford Murders series
on Tuesday 21st May 2019 7-8.30pm at The Grey Coat Hospital, Greycoat Place, London SW1P 2DY
In addition to our usual schedule of evening lectures, we are keen to bring you one-off evening events, study days and holidays. These events work only slightly differently to our usual schedule in that they require pre-booking and payment.
We are delighted to present our members and guests for just £10 per person, an exclusive evening with New York Times and Sunday Times bestselling author and speaker, Jessica Fellowes. Jessica will be presenting an illustrated talk on her second crime novel in The Mitford Murders series, Bright Young Dead, set in 1920s England. She will share her fascination with the interwar period and how her five years working on the Downton Abbey books gave her a wonderful immersion in the era, leading her to better understand how modern life as we know it began in 1920: the rapid developments in technology, the fast-paced political changes, the evolution of women in work. Jessica will share her views on writing about crime in general and give us some fascinating insights into her own writing process. After her talk, Jessica will be signing copies of Bright Young Dead which will be available for purchase.
About Bright Young Dead
Meet the Bright Young Things, the rabble-rousing hedonists of the 1920s whose treasure hunts were a media obsession. One such game takes place at the 18th birthday party of Pamela Mitford, but ends in tragedy as cruel, charismatic Adrian Curtis is pushed to his death from the church neighbouring the Mitford home. The police quickly identify the killer as a maid, Dulcie. But Louisa Cannon, chaperone to the Mitford girls and a former criminal herself, believes Dulcie to be innocent, and sets out to clear the girl’s name … all while the real killer may only be steps away.
This event will take place on Tuesday 21st May 2019, 7-8.30pm at The Grey Coat Hospital, Greycoat Place, London SW1P 2DY. Doors open at 6.30pm when wine and nibbles will be available. Tickets are only £10 per person. Booking can be made by downloading and completing the booking form (which may be accessed via the link) and returning it along with a cheque to the address on the booking form or alternatively scanning it and sending it by email to email@example.com with a notification of a bank transfer.
