Contemporaries of Caravaggio in the late 16th century, the Carracci were responsible for exploring new revolutionary ideas which would have far reaching consequences throughout 17th century Europe, particularly through the influence of the most talented member of the family, Annibale, and his work in the churches and palaces of Rome.
